Kong Research · Edition 2026
Of 499 Malaysian tour and activity operators, 51 let customers book directly on their website, 10.2%. Sampled across 9 destinations.
The finding
Malaysia has the lowest online presence in the region by a wide margin: 40.1% of operators have no website and no social page at all, against a regional average of 23.8%. That shapes everything else. The problem is not websites that cannot sell, it is that 2 out of 5 operators never built a website in the first place.
Operators who did get online do reasonably well. And on payment, Malaysia leads the region: 11 of 51 bookable operators accept FPX or DuitNow, the highest local-payment rate of any country measured, more than double Singapore’s. Malaysian operators who sell online sell to Malaysians.
Langkawi is the largest destination in the whole study at 145 operators, and 10.3% of them can take a booking online.
This page updates our earlier hand-audit of 252 Malaysian operators (July 2026) with a larger sample and a method applied identically across six countries.
