Methodology

Census, not survey. A sample of 252 independent operators was built by searching Google Maps across 14 Malaysian regions and 14 activity types. Website verification: each operator was checked by hand for a website of their own, with indexation confirmed against Semrush domain-rank data; social, messaging or marketplace presence alone counts as offline. Booking-mechanism review: all 66 operators with a working website were visited to confirm whether a booking can be completed online, or only an enquiry sent. This is a hand-audited convenience sample weighted toward Malaysia's tourism hubs; the website figure has stayed within the 72–74% band across sampling rounds, and the 8% bookable figure is a live check of every website-owning operator, not an estimate.
